Private Tours In Rome Can Provide A More Exclusive Look At This Historic City

Author : Cameron Rochelle   Top Author

There are very few cities in the world with more history and cultural heritage than Rome. Many tourists who come to Europe have Rome on their “must see” list. When visiting this historical city, travelers have a couple of different options. They can choose a group or private tour. Group tours can work for travelers on a budget, but private tours in Rome can offer the traveler greater exclusivity and more leeway in seeing the sights that are of most interest to them.

There are some other potential benefits to private tours in Rome. Perhaps the greatest benefit is that the visitor has their own personal tour guide. The tour guide is almost always fluent in English, which can be very helpful in ensuring clear communication with the visitor. The personal guide can offer a greater dimension to the entire trip by providing travelers the history and background of each of the sites they visit. The guide can also bring the visitor around to all the best local restaurants, and make sure they do not miss any of the landmarks they want to see.

Tour guides in Rome are different from many other major cities travelers visit. In some of the other tourist hotbeds, the visitor has very little assurance of the level of quality of the guide that will be assigned to them. In Rome, it’s different. Roman guides are put through a thorough training and examination process before they can be licensed. Before they ever go to work guiding foreign travelers, they are tested to make sure they know every attraction and are able to give visitors the type of experience they are seeking.

Another potential benefit to selecting a private tour of Rome is being able to leverage the insights of the guide to steer clear of tourist traps where local merchants seek to take advantage of out of town travelers. A guide who is well versed in all the ins and outs of the city will know which places and areas of town to keep away from. This helps the visitor stay safe and avoid being ripped off on merchandise that is not exactly what it is represented to be.

Some of the sights that a typical private tour of Rome will take a visitor to include the Roman Coliseum, Roman Forum, Circus Maximus, Capitoline Hill, the Vatican Museums, St Peter’s Basilica & Square, and the Sistene Chapel. There are several other places the guide may take the visitor as well.

Perhaps one of the biggest challenges with a tour of the Eternal City is being able to take in all of these sites in one day. Tourists who wish to spend extra time at one or more of these places may want to opt for a lengthier tour, like up to 10 hours. This gives them more flexibility, helping account for traffic delays and other unexpected circumstances that may arise.

With all the many options for places to see in this city, visitors are advised to plan ahead and decide which Roman tourist spots are most appealing to them. That way, they can plan out which places they may want to spend a little extra time in and which places they don’t mind skipping if they are pressed for time. It also helps to bring along a list of questions to ask the tour guide regarding the places that are of most interest. This allows the visitor to get the most out of their tour and gain a greater understanding of the rich traditions and cultural treasures that Rome has to offer.

Tours in Rome can offer a visitor access to all the richness and culture of the Eternal City. Going on a tour with a large group is one way to do it, but if it is within the visitor’s budget, a private tour with their own personal guide may provide a greater understanding and appreciation of the sites they are visiting.
