Why Teachers Can Have Low Car Insurance Rates

Author : Alexei Timchuk

Why does an insurance company offer car insurance? The obvious reason is that it offers insurance because it wants to do business and earn profit by selling an insurance policy and collecting premium on it. Going by the same logic, it would not like to be in a position where it ends up paying for claims and goes bankrupt. Insurance companies do a lot of study and research before giving out insurance policies. According to such research, they charge heavy premiums from truckers and stunt drivers because these drivers are more likely to be in accidents. The same research has shown that teachers are on an average better drivers than other type of drivers are. As a result they get more discounts than drivers from other professions.

There are some auto insurance companies that offer auto insurance only to teachers. For example, Horace Mann insurance is an insurance company founded by educators and specifically for educators. The company offers an Educators Advantage program that is tailor made to meet the specific needs of a teacher. If there is a teacher who has comprehensive coverage on his/her vehicle, then no comprehensive deductible applies if the vehicle gets vandalized while on school property or at a school sponsored event. In addition, teachers get special liability coverage for transporting students in their personal vehicle. There are even plans for retired and active teachers. This plan is called Teachers' Insurance Plan.

There are many companies that encourage teachers shopping for auto insurance to contact their local representative to get a price that includes a teacher discount. In some states in the US, there are special auto insurance options for the teachers of that state. For example, the Teacher's Insurance Plan for New Jersey. However, not all insurance companies offer additional discounts to teachers. Teachers, therefore, have to get insurance quotes from various sources. This will help in choosing a quote that offers a discount to teachers.

In some cases, an exceptionally low quote from an insurance company could be a throw away quote. This may be due to a miscalculation or some factors may have been overlooked. Still, a teacher may find a significant difference based on the discount structure.

There are some insurance companies which that specially design car insurance plans that are suitable for teachers. Most insurance providers offer flexible payment options for premiums that can be paid online as well. In case of any doubt or necessary clarification, there are many insurance agents in the open market who are ready to take suggest and advice the insurance holder on the right track. It is always prudent to do a bit of comparison shopping. There are many comparison websites that provide quotes from the top car insurance providers in your area. This will help you make a well informed decision and get the best possible rate without compromising on coverage.
