Men's Skin Care Tips & Advice

Author : Luci Plavent

Men's skin care is, without question, different from women's skin care. Why is that? The answer is simple: Men have to shave. The process of shaving, as well as the reality of thick hair follicles on the face, change what the most important qualities in a men's skin care line of products are. But what should men look for in skin care products, and what are the most important thinks to keep in mind when setting up a skin care program for a man?

Exfoliation Is Key to Men's Skin Care

Dead skin cells on the surface of the skin can cause two specific problems for men. The first is acne breakouts, which are ultimately caused by a build up of bacteria that begins when pores are clogged. The second is ingrown bear and mustache hairs. Nothing is more painful and unsightly than an ingrown hair, particularly a highly visible one on the face. For these reasons, ensuring that either the skin cleanser or skin treatment product that a man uses is designed to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin to allow for clear pores and smooth hair growth is of key importance.

Irritation Soothing is Important in Men's Skin Care

Shaving presents another challenge to skin care for men. The daily activity of using a shaving gel product and then running a sharp razor over the skin's surface can leave skin dry, chaffed, irritated and flakey. A good men's skin care line will feature a product that not only moisturizes but also soothes the redness and irritation that can be caused by daily shaving, not only for the sake of appearance but also for the sake of the comfort of the man using the product!

Sun Protection: Key for Men

While it's not as though women don't go outdoors, men tend to spend more time in the great outside, often playing sports or camping. Every time you go outside, of course, your skin is exposed to the sun and the harmful effects of ultra violet rays, which can not only damage skins appearance and cause the signs of aging, they can also create actual skin health concerns. Select a men's skin care line that incorporates sun protection as a key element.

Men and women are not the same, and their skin care needs are not the same either! Look for the above components in any men's skin care line you are considering using.
