Co-Curricular Education At International Schools

Children get various opportunities to display their talents while at school.
Shakespeare rightly said that the man who has no music in him is a pretty dismal specimen. Music has been a unique feature and activity which is given individual instrumental tuition at many international schools. Many school children apart from standing out in academics have excelled as distinguished composers and professional musicians.
Many Schools offer co-curricular activities as subjects in academics and there are also some serious credits attached to the same. Many schools currently offer individual lessons in piano, violin, viola, cello, string bass, clarinet, flute, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, euphonium, trombone, tuba, percussion and voice. Some schools in India offer lessons in traditional Indian instruments: Veena, Tabla, Carnatic vocal and Indian dance
For example, Music is taught regularly at all levels at Kodaikanal International School, Pathways International School, Dhirubhai Ambani International School, WoodStock International School, Mercedes-Benz International School and G D Goenka World School - Elementary, Middle and High Schools. In addition to the regular curricular music offerings, a school like Kodaikanal International offers IB Music to Diploma level and annually presents instrumental students for Royal Schools of Music (RSM, London) examinations in Music, Practical and Theory. An extensive music program is currently offered by many schools which in-turn sets an opportunity for the music teachers.
Most International Schools Surrounded by such stunning physical beauty on and off campus and this is reflected in the numbers of students taking art as an academic subject to its highest level. Dramatic arts is yet another form of art that many International Schools offer for the benefit of those students interested in drama and theatre.
Children and youth need and want to be physically active. Martial arts yet again is an extensive system of codified practices and traditions practiced for a variety of reasons, including self-defence, competition, physical health and fitness, as well as mental and spiritual development. Dhirubhai Ambani International School has won several laurels in inter-school tournaments organized by the Mumbai Schools Sports Association and the District Sports Office.

Swimming is given a lot of importance at many schools that provide a pool. There are provisions made for all age groups. This Sport is indeed a very popular sporting activity. The expert coaches are recruited keeping in mind they will be required to tackle beginners, regular swimmers as well as train students to take part in various competitions. Students at G D Goenka World School have won many laurels in Swimming Championships at the inter-school as well as national levels.

These are professionally supervised expeditions which include mountaineering, rock-climbing, paragliding, river rafting, scuba-diving and snorkeling with due regard to the Safety and welfare of the children.
