Saving The Environment With Reel Lawn Mowers

Author : Rick Maverickz

With every thing being so "automated" in today's world, it is hard to imagine that anybody would ever consider going back to doing things the hard way. However, there are a growing number of people and families that are opting to give up some of these creature comforts in effort to save the environment... and, as an added bonus, simplify their lives.

By giving up a fuel mower to mow their yard "by hand" with a reel mower is likely one of the ways that these individuals have chosen to sacrifice some modern-day lavishness for the sake of the environment.

"It is probably not that huge of a deal," says Martha Ganders of Stanton, Pennsylvania. "I only use it in the summer months and my yard is less than one acre, so it's easy." Martha owns one of the many modern-day reel garden mowers that have advanced features (in comparison with the reel mowers of past decades). It offers adjustable height settings, heat treated blades that never need sharpening and grass collection attachments.

You start to get an idea of why so many individuals are giving them up for fuel-free alternatives the moment you take a look at fuel mowers for what they are. With over fifty four million People mowing their lawns every weekend, using up an average of 15 gallons per yard (per year). That may not sound like a lot, but considering that those numbers tally up to about 800 million gallons per year, the numbers start to tackle a life of their own.

Consider too that those same individuals will SPILL over 17 gallons just attempting to fill the mower with gas. Additionally, these numbers only count America's contribution to the problem. There are numerous other industrialized nations who have citizens who own property with lawns and, due to this fact, have to take care of that yard (usually with a fuel-powered mower).

"Even when you don't believe in global warming utilizing a reel mower still seems like the right thing to do," stated Jessie Vanderbeek outside of his modest home in Fort Collins, Colorado. "I mean, carbon monoxide is poison, right? And combustion engines emit carbon monoxide, which, as I stated is poison. Why would any decent person be okay with releasing a bunch of poison into the air, particularly three or four feet away from their very own face."

So, could it be that reel lawn mowers will usher in a new era of environmental responsibility? Only time will tell. But, the reel lawn mower owners that I have spoken with tell me that using a reel lawn mower not only makes them feel better about themselves, but its also nice not to have all the noise... not to mention spending all that money on gas, oil, air filters, and repairs as they did before for their gasoline mowers.
