Lemon. Lemon contains citric acid, which is very effective in treating acne. The vitamin C found in citrus fruits is vital for that healthy glowing skin while its alkaline nature kills some types of bacteria known to cause acne. Using fruits belonging to this family naturally dries up the pimples. Here are some suggestions on how to prepare a homemade acne treatment using lemon.

Although it is not scientifically proven that chocolates and junk food cause acne, some foods may cause breakouts depending on its contents. Glycemic index (GI) of foods is simply an evaluation of the quality of carbohydrates in the food eaten. A high GI value results in a swift increase in blood glucose levels and raises the insulin levels while a low GI value has a slow rise in both blood glucose and insulin. A few examples of food with low GI value are as follows: vegetables except potatoes, fruits, nuts, fruit juice, water, and even coffee.

Tea tree oil has acne-fighting power that is even greater than the most common chemical used in the treatment of acne, benzoyl peroxide. The chemical competition does a great job of killing acne bacteria.

Tea tree oil, however, not only kills acne bacteria, it also kills the bacteria that can cause staph infections, those little red pimples with the yellow circle in the center.

You are what you eat. Too heavy sugar-intake actually harms your health, and your skin. The skins tends to produce more oil if you take too much sugars. The excess oils are the root cause of acne by forming whiteheads/blackheads and eventually develop into acne scars if not treated well. I know it's not easy to change your diet habit, especially for those who like eat deserts. But you should at least try to reduce the amount or frequency of sugar intakes. The good thing is that once you start doing that, you will feel the difference pretty fast - in weeks or even days.

Oatmeal has been used as a home treatment for varied skin problems. Similarly, oatmeal paste and extract are some of the best acne natural cures. Cook oatmeal until softened and blend it with honey. Apply the mixture over acne, let it stay like that for 25 minutes and rinse with water.

Vitamin B-complex (thats the numbered vitamins) have all been linked to acne treatment, they are a natural aid to combat the affects of stress on the body, especially helpful if stress in particualr causes an acne outbreak. Vitamin E is a powerful anti-oxident and helps protect your cells against by-products of the bodies metabolism and has been linked to effective acne treatments. Zinc is an antioxidant and helps boost the immune system. It has been noted that people with a Zinc defficiency can be more likely to get acne.
