Hair Removal Procedures With Lasers

Author : Callum Asterman

For as long as they have tried to look attractive to one another, people have been tempted to modify the bodies nature provided, whether through simply wearing clothes and jewellery, or by trying to modify their physique, complexion, or physical features. Often this was required to conform with their local cultural traditions; other times it's to do the opposite: to stand out.

Hair removal has been a popular practice for many hundreds of years. Frequently, the removal would take place for cultural or spiritual reasons, but humans evolved and developed and we began to value individuality and freedom of expression, it has taken on different reasons, and fashion dictated different forms of hair removal. Looking back to the 1970s, for example, when people "let it all hang out", it was not considered taboo to be hairy. Men wore beards and women did not feel like they had to have smooth armpits. Even looking at images of stylish women from the slick, sharp 1980s might produce a surprise or two to the fashionistas of today, especially when you saw the volumous eyebrows, which are nowadays kept pretty tidy.

The 1990s is probably the time when the major cultural shift took place and a taste for less body hair becamre more popular. Women would subject themselves to all sorts of discomfort to achieve the perfect bikini line, with waxing and sugaring proving to be particular favourites as they even resigned themselves to pulling out roots to prevent re-growth, something shaving failed to prevent. Shaving could also cause a rash, and although waxing also left soreness, it was normally short-lived.

With little to suggest a return to the hairy times is on the horizon (the exception being men's bald patches), women are now quite happy to opt for laser hair removal as a more permanent and less painful treatment. In order to achieve permanent results a few laser sessions are typically needed (not usually more than eight, but usually at least three), primarily because the hairs that have yet to surface will not be targeted by the practitioner but will still grow up to the skin surface only to be targetted in the next session.

Laser hair reduction can be used in conjunction with other forms of removal, and many women might opt, for example, to have their bikini line, eyebrows and upper lip lasered while maintaining a shaving or cream regime on their legs and armpits. And of course, the treatment is not just resevred for the ladies; men are increasingly getting laser treatment to achieve a smooth look on the chest, or at least to reduce the gorilla coated look some men suffer from.

The removal of hair with lasers is a technique that in in its infancy still although all test indicated it to be a very safe procedure. There are even some manufacturers producing home laser kits for people to carry out their own treatments, but just how effective these low energy alternatives are remains to be seen, especially we most experts recomend seeing an expert before any form of treatment should start. In other words, a professional treatment is the one to go for in the first instance, at least for the time being. But as a procedure for hair removal, laser treatment is probably the best there is.
