Growth Of Online TV

Author : James Sng

Since 2009, I have been relying on Online TV whenever I miss a TV program. It has been my go-to service whenever I forgot to watch a show because of work or because someone in the family wanted to watch a different TV show. Hulu, Netflix and Amazon are the few sites I frequently visit to check if the show is available on their sites. Ever since I've been aware of this technology, I never missed a single show that I wanted to watch.
And with the latest advancements in the free TV online industry, Internet TV providers are attracting more and more viewers to switch from premium cable subscriptions to Internet TV. One of the advantages that providers use to attract subscribers is the cheaper price of TV programs in high-definition format. In TV Online, anyone who has a fast internet connection (preferably 2 Mbps and above) can enjoy watching TV videos in high-resolution. Usually, this feature is available to customers with paid subscription which only costs a fraction of the amount these viewers pay to their cable TV providers.
Another reason why people are migrating to free internet TV is the number of advertisements shown. In live TV, a commercial break usually lasts for about 3 to 4 minutes. While in TV online, a commercial break only shows a single ad which lasts for only 25 seconds. There's less interruptions which enable viewers to enjoy the program that they are watching.
Third reason why people are switching is the convenience it offers to every subscriber. Using an internet TV software, subscribers can watch any TV program when they feel like watching it. Subscribers do not have to wait for the reruns on TV just to catch the show that they missed. All they have to do is launch the internet TV software that they have downloaded from the TV provider and browse through the list of available show. No need to wait for a specific time when the show will be telecast again and no need to watch programs that you don't like watching.
Last reason is the number of available shows on Internet TV. Right now, there are about 3000 online channels broadcasted plus the archived movies and TV shows. Every subscriber will definitely find the movie or TV show that they would like to watch. Each online channel, TV show and movie is categorized by its origin, genre and time when it was released so every subscriber will not have a hard time navigating through programs that they like to view.
Of course, if there are reasons why people are switching to online TV, there are also reasons why people remain loyal to their cable TV providers. Reasons like "the videos on online TV are not as clear on TV live" and "internet TV consumes a lot of Internet bandwidth", still attracts people to stay with TV providers. But these reasons have been answered by the availability of HDTV formats on free internet TV and the availability of faster broadband connections.
