The Truth On Duplicate Content

Author : Jimmy Duffy

In the field of online marketing, especially website positioning and also backlink building, there is usually much uncertainty over duplicate content.

Like the name would suggest, duplicate content is a situation in which the same content is published in more than one place.

So for example, a well-known backlink building technique is article marketing.

You create some content, distribute it to dozens or even many more article publication sites or blog networks and then link to your business's site from all these published articles.

How most people get mystified with duplicate content is when they assume that having the exact same piece of content published to a hundred sites and linked to your own website is going to cause Google to impose a penalty on your website.

However this is just not the case, and you'll find several explanations for this.

To begin with, prior to article writing becoming as widespread as it has become, information had been widely distributed across the web via news services and you can guarantee there was zero penalties being placed on anyone then just as there aren't any currently.

The second reason Google would never penalize your site for having backlinks coming from numerous instances of the same article is that it'd open the door to nefarious tactics by competitors.

There are many people operating on the web who sadly are happy to do whatever needs doing to make money. If they believed they could cause a fall in the competitors search positioning by this duplicate article circulation you can wager they'd they would have been doing it already.

Google is mindful of this so they will not punish you for using this sort of SEO.

Now there is little question that getting one hundred different articles published on one hundred different internet sites with backlinks to your own site is going to have a better influence than having one article released on hundreds of sites.

But that is a lot of article content that must be created which takes time and or money.

So what is the answer?

Well a common solution is known as content spinning.

Essentially you write an article and then work with an article spinner to produce what is called a spun version. That spun article can generate hundreds and possibly even thousands of unique variations which could be published throughout the internet for a potent link building method.

Now there is I time where your site can be punished for duplicate material and that's when you have got several occurrences of the same content on your own site.

As long as you make certain that all the articles you use on your own site is unique from any other piece of content then you won't come upon any issues with the duplicate content punishment.
