Foods That Help Acne - What You Should Be Eating To Help Keep Acne At Bay

Author : Rick Minarovich

Although it is teens that are the most commonly affected age group when it comes to acne, the problem can persist and even arise for the first time in adults too, and foods that help acne can be beneficial to both groups. Although acne is not directly caused by dietary factors certain foods can make the problem worse, and removing these from the diet can make the difference in being able to enjoy clear skin.

We all have a basic idea of what foods are healthy and which aren't, for example we all know that an apple is a far healthier snack than some chocolate cake, and following general healthy eating guidelines and habits will also work wonders for your skin. This means that the best foods that help acne are those which are freshly produced and contain all natural ingredients.

So, it would be a good start to increase the amount of fresh fruit and vegetables that you eat and reduce the amount of processed food. Wholemeal bread and wholegrain pasta and rice are less processed than their white counterparts, making them much healthier for the skin as well as the body as a whole.

As well as foods that help acne, there are those that can make it worse. Any deep-fried oily food should be avoided, and if you must fry food use Olive oil and try to drain away as much excess oil as possible. Instead of eating potato chips as a snack, try some fresh fruit or even some nuts instead. Brazil nuts in particular are good for acne because they contain plenty of selenium, which can help ward off acne.

It is not just changing your diet to contain more foods that help acne that is needed, but also what you drink too. Drinks containing caffeine and alcohol have been known to trigger an outbreak of acne and should be avoided, especially if you notice an outbreak occurring after drinking them. Water is the order of the day here, and plenty of it (about 2 litres a day). Also try to cut out sweet sugary drinks too, as too much sugar intake doesn't help either.

These are just a few pointers to give you a general idea of foods that help acne sufferers reduce the severity of the problem, and even cure themselves of it. It isn't rocket science, if it is fresh and nutritious it will help and if it is over processed or classed as 'junk food' it will make it worse. It is the toxins that are present in the over processed convenience foods that can wreak havoc on the body both internally and externally, and eliminating them from the diet as much as possible will help both teens and adults overcome acne.
