Articles - A Reverse Marketing Strategy

Using articles as a method for reverse marketing is easier than you may think. When I was first introduced to the concept of article marketing, my first thought was that I was not a writer. The idea of writing an article is not what most people are afraid of. Usually the fear of not writing well enough, of receiving negative feedback, or fear of rejection causes people to dismiss this avenue for marketing. For anyone fearful of the idea, I suggest reviewing other writers material on topics you might write about, and you'll notice that the majority are not superstar writers.

The Objective Of Article Writing For Reverse Marketing

The goal of writing articles as a reverse marketing tool is not for you to win an award. The intention is for you to circulate information packed content that is related to your business and industry. This article gets posted on your blog, and you let your blog be your promotion piece. When writing, steer clear of press releases or sales copy promoting your business or product, since they do not get published in the same fashion.

Articles used for reverse marketing are intended to inform, educate, and teach, plain and simple. Writing articles is a tool for self promotion, without promoting yourself. Instead, you focus on providing answers and solutions to problems related to your business. For instance, if you promote a business opportunity, ask yourself, what information are opportunity seekers really needing? Maybe they are looking for help in how to find a legitimate business opportunity. If that is the answer, you might write an article advising people on how to know when a business is a good investment. There are many topics you can choose to write about such as how to articles, company reviews, training, business tools, or even specific articles pertaining to problems in which you can provide a solution for etc.

Given that reverse marketing is really like an indirect marketing approach, the content you produce must stay consistent with your primary topic. What I mean by this is if your article is teaching people how to properly evaluate a business opportunity, you cannot promote a certain business, your article needs to stay on task with teaching them how. In order to succeed using articles for reverse marketing, you cannot publish anything that directly promotes you, you must stay focused on providing the answers people seek from a broader view point. It also makes sense to choose subjects you are knowledgeable of, since you want to be known as credible. If you do choose a topic you are not considerably knowledgeable of, make sure you study it, so you can impart honest and valuable direction. Generally articles can be anywhere from 500-700 words. However, if the words seem to flow effortlessly, articles containing at least one thousand words, can be accepted by more article sites, boosting your exposure, and aiding in your SEO ranking.

How Does This Form of Reverse Marketing Work?

Simply publishing articles will not generate sales. Each article you write should be posted to your blog first. Next, you submit the articles to numerous article sites to be published. If you are thinking this sounds time consuming, no worries, as there is software available for automated submissions. When you write an article, at the end of the article you include information about the author, being you, and most sites will allow you to include two or three hyperlinks in your author resource box or signature. The author resource box is the place to promote yourself as the expert, and generate traffic for your blog or money making sites. What you really gain when your content is published all over the internet, is multiple websites all backlinking to your site, providing for better search engine ranking.

When your articles are published, combining real valuable information with a persuasive author resource section, you create a desire for those reading to learn more about you and what you do. The purpose of this form of reverse marketing is to generate leads, therefore, it is imperative that you are able to gather contact information . You will need to install a web form or a lead capture form on your blog or sales page. Using articles for reverse marketing helps you build your credibility, brand you as an expert in your field, and build trust with potential customers or partners. Keep in mind, this is about providing valuable answers for people first and foremost.

Resources Needed For Article Reverse Marketing

1. Personally hosted blog with your own domain
2. Software for submitting to multiple sites
3. Web form or lead capture page
4. Auto-response emailer program
5. Keyword training or tools

It is not enough to just write content, post, and publish without any rhyme or reason, you must know how to choose the right keywords. Since your goal is to attract customers to you, your content needs to revolve around popular keywords, researched by your target market. Selecting the right keywords, does take some training, since competition with popular keywords is usually very high, which lowers your visibility. Resist the temptation to be overwhelmed because you can find no cost or very low cost training and tools.

Using articles as a tool for reverse marketing can be very effective when used properly. Again, do not be scared of the process, or be concerned about writing perfectly. It is not necessarily in how eloquently you write, it has more to do with the value and amount of content you produce. Massive action equals massive results. Lastly, I must stress how critical it is that your material delivers what your readers and target market is looking for. Relevance is fundamental.
