Builders Working In Construction

Author : Mark Preston

Builders is a generic term usually applied to various people involved in the construction industry. It can apply to laborers in both commercial and private home construction businesses. It can apply to the managers and those employed by them; the employee who has their trade or the employee who isn't certified for the trade.

Builders can apply to the contractors on a jobsite. These people are the ones in charge and oversee the entire building project. Subcontractors, similar to contractors, will oversee different elements of the building project. The contractor may hire out all work via a subcontractor or subcontractors, or only some of the work. Contractors and subcontractors essentially oversee the project and hire-out the work to different individuals and companies who can complete the various work.

More often than not, builders applies to the work force on a jobsite. The men and women completing the manual tasks and this can range from the trades people -- those certified in work such as carpentry, masonry, electricians, heating and cooling and experts and more. And it can apply to the general laborers who are not yet certified in a particular trade and may be apprenticing or going about schooling to achieve certification.

Quite often the term will apply to the general laborers and the "unskilled" labor used in construction. "Unskilled" simply means certification has not yet been attained and very often this help has had years and years of experience in what they do. Also, many of these people tend to have skills in various aspects of building and construction and make their living from performing work in different elements that don't require too much in-depth application. The builder may be the person who can lay down carpet on the stair well of a home, put of drywall for the newly constructed business or help install kitchen cabinets.

This term is almost the same and has very much the same meaning as the often said quote "jack of all trades, master of none." This is simply a joking way of saying the person knows how to do the basics of everything or a lot of jobs, but doesn't have the skill for in-depth work applying to that application.

Much of construction is completed and done by this element of the workforce simply because their rates are less than their tradesperson counterparts and lack of union membership. They are also often the people who are more freelance and have flexibility in their schedules to complete tasks.

The term very often applies to the non-trades people in construction but also includes all of those involved in construction. Builders are the people all business and private construction projects require to complete the various jobs.
