Planning A Get-Away: Is It Really As Complicated As Everyone Believes?

Author : Dakota Lindal

I'm so thrilled. Why? Well, I just scheduled our flights to London! We are going on holiday! I must say, finally choosing the right vacation destination was quite a task. I wanted one thing and my partner wanted something totally different! Next time we book, I'll ensure that I will follow the pointers my friend passed on to me which helped me to choose the best destination.

You have to be well prepared; know what you would like and what you don't want. That way, you guarantee a hassle-free, stress-free holiday. You're actually going on holiday to try to relax a little, so the last thing you need is to stress about minor details. Pick your destination: start big and decide on a country or city you would like to go to. This will help you limit resort and accommodation options. If you are taking some time off work, I suggest you make the most of it and go overseas. We live in South Africa and neither of us has ever been overseas. That is why we chose London: first of all mainly because we are very enthusiastic about and fascinated by very old, classic and unique buildings and architecture. I am also a part-time digital photographer and love to take images of these architectural structures to add to my portfolio. Secondly because we know someone there and can visit them. We would also have our own personal tour guide! We did, however, decide to book into a nice upmarket hotel. And were we stunned when we saw the wide variety of hotels, motels, lodges, and bed and breakfasts on the internet! We didn't know which ones to consider and which of them to skip. We did not know where any of the places of interest in London were, so we couldn't have a look at accommodation close to them. And yes, we could probably have looked at a roadmap, but neither of us is any good with directions, so it would have ended up disastrous. Nonetheless, we have selected a hotel and hope that everything works out fine.

After booking our accommodation and flights to London, we set out "activity hunting". We need to find out what things to do and sight-seeing opportunities London offers so we'll have something to do while we are there! Plan your vacation according to times. I usually draft an itinerary which includes all our essential information: our ticket numbers, flight numbers, booking references and times of departure and arrival; our hotel accommodation booking confirmation, the address, phone number and contact person; our rental car reservation number, pick up and drop off dates, times and destinations as well as a list of all of the activities we would like to do, their addresses, how to get there and any other important information. Yes , it may seem a bit outrageous, but I like being well prepared: better safe than sorry!

After everything we searched and planned for, reserving our flights to London was the easiest. So, if you are planning a vacation anytime soon, remember: always be prepared, pay attention to the smaller details: rather safe than sorry!
