10,000 Steps To Excellent Health

Everybody wants to be as healthy as they can but not everybody has the time to do the required amount of exercise to get there. This is why some health specialists are advocating the ten thousand step method. The strategy is that you take at least ten thousand steps each day (walking) which can help you get very healthy and reduce the time that is required for exercise. Walking is a good, low impact, exercise. How often have you over heard a health care provider say "just a single stroll around the block improves your health"?

Obviously, this won't be easy to take ten thousand steps every single day. That's a whole lot! The very good news is that you probably already take the majority of those steps each day already and don't know it yet. Your goal should really just be increasing your step count by two or three thousand. So how do you accomplish that without feeling like you're wasting half of your morning walking around?

There are a bunch of totally obvious things that can be done to take more steps. Use the stairs as opposed to the elevator--that's rather simple. When you go to the store or the mall park your car further away from the entrance. To further this strategy, you could also stay parked in one spot and walk your shopping bags out to the car as you accumulate them-instead of carting them all over the shopping center as you run your errands. Choosing public transit is excellent since it includes a walk to and from a bus or train stop which is great for increasing your step count. Obviously, simply just taking a short walk each day is also wise.

You could also increase the amount of steps you take by using some less than apparent methods. Plan a grocery shopping list differently. Plenty of men and women organize lists by the aisles in their favorite stores. You could choose to order your list based on category just like meat, product and dairy. Then find every item in the order that it is shown on your list. You could end up criss crossing the store several times but it's a wonderful way to increase your step count. Instead of owning a mail box as part of your door or attached to the house, install it on a post near to the curb. This could create at least several dozen steps to your count everyday as you walk from your door to the box and back.

There are a lot of ways to build your step count. As you get used to the idea of walking 10,000 steps a day you'll think of great ways to accomplish this goal faster. The nice thing is that all the steps you take each day count-walking to the fridge, the copy machine to and from your car-they all matter for your goal. Try to have fun with your challenge!
