Pod Coffee Maker-Why You Should Have One

Author : Jacabo Jacobs

You can find hundreds of sites selling coffee by simply keying in the term "pod coffee unit" into the search engine. Just by searching a little further you will be able to find many articles about why people love them. After all, most people put up a web page and write articles to sell products. Telling people that the product their trying to sell isn't perfect for everyone visiting their site or reading their article is counter-productive. I truly love my product, so don't misunderstand me. However, its not for everyone, so try to know the true facts before buying.

Since these machines are closed systems, most consumers consider it a drawback.

Most of the time pods only work for certain manufacturer machines. They gain full control over the price of pods. Tassimo for example, can only take pods made by the same maker. These machines are so smart that they can literally read a barcode on the pods so that they know exactly how long they have to brew the coffee. Had the manufacturer enabled the consumer to select a setting on the machine, instead of having the machine read the pod, it might have been possible for consumers to use something other than the patented T-Disk.

Many consumers are becoming more aware of this issue which is encouraging manufacturers to come up with a solution. There is device that has been put out by Keurig which is called the Perfect Pod Holster which can be used for almost any pod. Users can now brew their favorite coffee because of the reusable filter that they offer.

Using the reusable filter though reduces the convenience of the pod coffee machine. Because the pods are specially made, they are more expensive than traditional ground coffee. Ordering the pods online and joining a monthly auto-ship program can help minimize the cost.

Another issue that takes consumers by surprise is the noise. Although the noise in the professional coffee shops is common knowledge, few make the connection when buying a coffee maker for their home. The pump used to move the water is the culprit and has been compared to a jet engine by some reviewers. Let's face it, it's loud but it's not that loud. I think the noise of jet engines at the airport is much louder.

Quieter options are available. If you go for the less expensive coffee makers then you might notice a big difference in the noise level. Keurig has come up with "quiet brew technology" which is another option you might want to consider if you are looking for something more quiet.

In a final note, a thing that people dislike is that pods can only be used for single coffee makers which ofcourse only make one cup of coffee. One pod makes one cup of coffee. If you and your spouse happen to be in a hurry for work then this can truly become an inconvenience. It can also be troublesome if you have a large dinner party where you have to brew many cups at once. Buying a high-wattage machine will decrease the brew time, and opting for one that has a water reservoir will also save time. Two brands that will help with time are Mr. Coffee and Cuisinart because they can brew two cups at a time. If this is your main concer then these are relatively good choices.
