Why Do You Keep Attracting The Wrong Guys?

Author : Rhonda Jones

Do you feel like every guy you meet is "the one" only to find out after a few months that the two of you are not compatible at all. It can be exciting and easy to focus on the initial infatuation of a relationship instead of long-term compatibility. Oftentimes these feelings are not enough to make a relationship last. Falling madly in love with every guy you go on a date with can cause emotional stress and strain for you and your family. Studies have shown that many women fear making the wrong choice when it comes to selecting a mate. This fear encourages serial dating and the idea that love is either non-existent or very difficult to find. If you are the type of person who continues to draw the wrong people into your life, here are some ways to change that unhealthy behavior.

Do Not Easily Dismiss His Past - The idea that one should live in the present instead of dwelling on the past is a very common cliché. However it's also important to consider what psychology has to say on this subject. Did you know that today most recruitment firms use a psychological profile when evaluating job candidates? Modern psychology has shown that past behavior and performance is often repeated in the future. While it is not always healthy to dwell on the past, it can give you an idea of what type of person you are dealing with. If there is a chapter in his life that bothers you it's important to talk about what happened so you can determine whether true and sincere change has actually occurred. It is important to watch out for behaviors that suggest a reversion to the past even in a long-term relationship. Sometimes people carry deeply seeded issues with them that could take years to surface.

Focus On Who He Is - Remember that being happy with the qualities your partner has now is the best way to ensure success in a relationship. If you are focused on what he may become you may find yourself sorely disappointed down the road. If you plan on marrying your current boyfriend who just graduated from law school because you think he will become the next great city prosecutor, then you might be getting married for the wrong reasons. If he fails to live up to your expectations then the relationship may fail as well. Your perception of the future gets the best of what the real focus should be - the present.

If you feel you are constantly getting involved with the wrong type of guy ask an expert. Professional relationship counselors can help you explore the personal reasons you may have for seeking men who are incompatible.
