How English Premier League Can Grow More

Author : CD Mohatta

The game of football, as they say, never ceases to amaze the spectators. No wonder, the game is most religiously followed and sincerely watched sport around the globe. The craze of the game is not only in those countries who are the top guns in the world football but also many more nations where the game is yet to grow its roots. The fan-following for many football players is as crazy as for the sport itself, if not more. Most of these players, in fact all, play for different clubs all around the world. Irrespective of their nations performance at the world level, these hard-working performers continue to win fans with their club achievements in different leagues. While countries like India, Iran, Japan and other Asian nations are still struggling to come up in world football, most European countries are standing tall with many glorious football achievements. The high-paying clubs of these European countries are home to most football stars. Although European countries like Germany, Netherlands, Italy, France and Spain have respectable clubs playing in their domestic leagues, one nation that stands out in terms of catching the brightest football stars is England.

The English Premiere League (EPL), is the most followed league and has viewers from more countries than any other European league. English clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have set high standards of play and earned respect with their perfect conduct all over the world. The fan-following for football's richest and lavish stars, playing for this clubs, easily surpasses the craze of most others. EPL has coverage in many nations and is still striving hard to reach and pull out money from certain untouched markets.

The clubs battle wild, every week, for the domestic glory and draw millions of viewers for these games. And while players are sweating and bleeding it out on the field for all-important 3 points, the club management brainstorms to strategize their club expansion in different nations. This strategies help the clubs grow their roots in the foreign market. Many epl clubs sell their official player jerseys in such foreign markets, where every star-struck football fan gladly snatches it from the store. But after this revolutionary strategy the clubs are finding it hard to bag good moolah from foreign markets.

The major factors that marred the expansion of the EPL clubs is the availability of unofficial jerseys of these clubs and limping progress of national football teams of these foreign countries. The need of these clubs is not to create market for the clubs alone, but to take the sport to a new level in these countries. Serious steps to set up proper football camps in potential foreign locations should be initiated. This will not only groom the raw talent of foreign players but also spread the game in the interiors of many nations.

The clubs should grab opportunities to sign talented players from these football-struggling foreign nations and try them on their evergreen grassy fields. Playing alongside big names of the games will give such players a morale boost and also create a new audience who will be excited to see a local face on their screens.

The clubs should establish more places like 'Manchester United cafe' in foreign locations, which can successfully bring all die-hard club followers together at one place. The tremendous response to the 'Man-U cafe' should inspire other clubs to do the same. The fans are always excited to see their teams play and such cool hang-out places will certainly attract them and also many others.

The basic idea to expand the fan base of any club or league should originate from the concept of expanding the reach of the game and not merely out of greed of exploiting the possible markets.
