Are You Looking For Joint Pain Relief?

Author : Vincent McBride

Those suffering from arthritis look for methods in which they can relieve the pain and swelling. Arthritis can be an exceptionally painful condition especially in elderly people. There are however several different methods of arthritis pain relief remedies as well as alternative methods such as physiotherapy and medications. The most commonly used drugs are non-steroidal anti inflammatory prescribed medications.

Anti inflammatory medications help alleviate muscle aches, headaches, minor aches and pains as well as fever if taken in low dosages. High dosages which are prescribed by doctors reduce joint inflammation. There are three different types of anti inflammatory drugs that all block hormone like substances that produce pain, fever, muscle cramps and inflammation. However these medications when taken long term can produce side effects such as gastric bleeding and cause upset stomachs.

In addition arthritis pain relief can be obtained effectively from taking COX 2 inhibitors which help reduce inflammation and pain. This type of medication has far less side effects. Drugs such as Bextra and Vioxx were removed from the market as studies showed that these medications increased the risk of cardiovascular disease as well as skin rashes. Then there are medications for arthritis pain relief such as salicylates that contain aspirin which seems to be an alternative prescribed by doctors.

However these drugs taken long term can present with complications such as gastrointestinal bleeding as well as kidney failure. Fairly large doses of most medication are needed in order to control arthritic pain and inflammation. There are also anti inflammatory steroids known as glycocorticoids which are extremely effective in the treatment of arthritis, however they also present with side effects.

Alternatively there are also homeopathic substitutes as well as herbal remedies, which present with little or no side effects. These types of medication take far longer to take effect as opposed to the prescription counterparts.
