Can Ready Made Meal Replacements Promote Weight Loss?

Following a low calorie dietary plan can definitely help you to lose those excess lbs and witness the end results of extra weight loss - yet how much can they help?
There have been limited research to date into commercial weight loss programmes that supply ready made low calorie meals, however 2 new studies have helped researchers to gain a better picture.
Trial 1: conducted on a group of 130 overweight women for 1 year, each was provided with 2 calorie controlled pre-packaged meals and drinks every day for the first 3 months, before swopping down to just 1 meal per day from months 3 to 6. When eaten alongside 1 hours daily exercise they experienced average weight losses of 10kg in a year.
Study 2: performed on a group of 442 overweight women with Body Mass Index's of between 25 and 40, during this 2 year trial they were tested to see which offered better results - low calorie meals or support from a nutritionist…
After 2 years it was found that those provided with pre-made meal lost 300% more body fat than those receiving nutritional advice: calorie controlled meals (average weight losses 6-7kg), nutritional support (average dietary losses of 2kg).
Are these studies reliable?
Whilst both studies clearly indicate the benefits of receiving weight loss help, the second trial is the most reliable as experts were able to review pre-made meals to dietary advice.
Yet even with these statistics, these results should be considered carefully…
Given these meals for 1-2 years for no cost at all, it is difficult to determine if these statistics would have been as big if slimmers had had to invest in these meals themselves or if they had received less help.
