I don't know anyone who doesn't want to lose a little weight. In fact, at some point or another we have all looked in dismay at the number on the scale. A few will think, "okay I have to start to eat better". Then there will be the people who throw their money away on weight loss programs. The Mayo Clinic is probably something you are already familiar with. If you've ever looked up information on health conditions, you've probably read at least a few articles that have been published by this company. Did you know that they also publish a weight loss program for people who want to lose some weight? This program includes a guide on how to lose weight and uses information from the food pyramid as its base. If you are interested in this diet make sure that you are following the actual Mayo Clinic diet. Because there is also a fad diet out there that goes by the same name. So be sure to double check your source before starting the program. You've probably heard about Jenny Craig too, it's similar in some ways and quite popular too. The main reason for this is it's celebrity endorsement status. With the Jenny program you are given menus to choose from with food from their program only. They will perform regular 'weigh ins' to watch your progress as you shed the pounds. It is a good program but it can get quite expensive. Alot of people who try this program complain about the size of the portions. Even though the progam works many find the transition difficult.

The Mediterranean Diet never really made it to the top of any lists. It's still pretty popular though. Greece, Western Europe and other countries around the Mediterranean sea follow a diet similar to this one. People from these areas have similar diets and appear to be thinner and healthier than most in the western world, so this diet assumes they have the right combination. You can even keep eating all your favorite foods on this diet.

There are lots of different weight loss programs out there to choose from. How can you be sure you've picked the right one? If you have any doubts about need a weight loss program, consult with your doctor first. Your doctor will help you put together a diet program that helps you lose weight and keeps you healthy at the same time. With a little work and some patience you'll be able to reach your goal weight!
