Water Filters - How To Avoid Contaminated Tap Water

Author : Venkata Krishnan Rajagopalan

Water is the elixir of life and without access to clean water our bodies are unable to sustain life. We all have access to tap water, but often the water is not as clean as it should be and there are foreign bodies and chemicals or toxins that come in contaminated tap water. You do not want to expose yourself and your family to unnecessary health risks, so you should find a water filter for your home.

Following investigations by the Environmental Protection Agency, there are more than 700 chemicals that can be found in tap water. Some of the chemicals are even added to the water deliberately such as chlorine and fluoride, but over time they can harm the body and lead to health problems.

Generally, chlorine is added to the water to kill bacteria and organisms in the water. The great thing about this chemical is that it prevents serious illness caused by these organisms and germs, but the chlorine could over time lead to cancer, kidney and lung damage.

Fluoride is often added to drinking water in order to prevent caries and tooth decay, but this chemical can also lead to birth defects in babies, osteoporosis and cancer. You should therefore try to filter your drinking water in order to avoid taking in this unnecessary chemical.

Drinking the water is not the only problem, as your skin is porous and takes in many of the chemicals through bathing and showering as well. Bathing in hot water increases the problem as the skin pores open and take in more of the chemicals than they would were you bathing in cold water.

While this information is alarming, there are things that you can do in order to safeguard your health and reduce your exposure to harmful chemicals. Getting a filtration system put into your home is a very good place to start and it will drastically reduce the exposure that you have to these harmful bacteria, organisms and chemicals and this will lead to much better health outcomes for you and your family.

Avoid contaminated tap water and drink and bathe in clean water by putting a filter system into your home. The expense that you go to to introduce this will be more than covered by the better health that everyone experiences now and in the long term. You will notice the difference to your health immediately as well as be taking the best steps to protect yourself and your family.
