The mailing list is indeed more than just a compilation of names and their email addresses. Sending the right message to the right person is the basis of any successful direct mail marketing campaign as it will definitely generate sales in due course.

Rudiments of a High-quality Mailing List
• Your viewers or readers should complement your products or services.

There are many ways through which you can compile your mailing list for the direct mailing campaign. You can research and build a database on your own or you can assign freelancers to do the job or you can even purchase it from data service companies or brokers.

Building your Own Database: If you decide to build your own list, that is indeed the best option. Even though, you have to work a little hard, the end list will be more reliable, well focused and accurate.
Hire Freelancers: By assigning freelancers who have similar experience to do the task you can have a list that may be near accurate and reliable. A little bit of effort is demanded from your side in providing proper guidance and instructions to freelancers.
Purchase database from a data service company: When you are using a data service company you can enjoy a lot of demographic choices like location, household size, income level etc.
Whatever the option you choose, make sure that your list has the three prerequisites namely: precision, significance, and currency.
Significance – Your database should include the emails of those who are more likely buy your products or avail the services you're offering.

Precision – Verify the data twice or even thrice to ensure that all information’s are accurate or not.

Currency –Do confirm that the list you have is new and fresh so that you are not wasting your money for an old ineffective database.
